Northern California Regional Showcase 2011

Thank you to the 200+ attendees, presenters, volunteers, and partners for such an encouraging and inspiring showcase event! Wow.

June 12, 2011, Fort Mason, San Francisco

We brought together investors, entrepreneurs and food & farming leaders who are rebuilding our local food system. Learn how you can get involved and invest in building an economy based on principles of soil fertility, sense of place, care of the commons, and economic, cultural and biological diversity.

Twelve projects selected from more than 50 qualified funding proposals submitted presented their sustainable food and farming enterprises. These finalists include existing businesses seeking growth and expansion capital, startups, as well as non-profit initiatives. Examples included:

  • Strengthen the distribution from small farms into Bay Area cities
  • Build a facility for processing grass-fed meat locally
  • Convert and protect regional farmland for organic farmers
  • Provide healthy food alternatives for low income neighborhoods

Featured speakers included Ari Derfel, Executive Director of Slow Money and Melanie Nutter, Director of the Department for the Environment of the City and County of San Francisco.
